Corfu Mountain Bike Tours

By Lynn Wilkinson of Affordable Corfu

Discover a unique new way to explore the hidden and unspoiled parts of the green Corfiot countryside!

Mountain biking is one of the most practical ways to discover the real Corfu. The island's good minor road system and the central location of the Corfu mountain bike shop in the holiday resort village of Dassia means that almost all beautiful parts are easy to reach during a single day's cycling trip, so that each day's cycling can be a new experience.

Off the main roads in the beautiful green country-side, there is an extensive network of paths and tracks which leads to a virgin territory full of cycling opportunities. The forest tracks of the Pantokrator mountain range provide very challenging routes for expert cyclists alike, while for less strenuous and serene trips the lowland areas of Ropa Valley and central Corfu are full of opportunities and interesting themes.

Affordable Corfu offers the following Corfu Mountain Bike Tours. All tours include excellent GIANT Mountain bike with all accessories (with 24-27 gears, front or dual suspension), bottle of water, local guide(s) and transfer. Tours are suitable for clients in a healthy 'cycle' condition, and group size is small and of various nationalities.

Corfu Mountain Bike Tours - Coast to Coast
At the meeting place in Dassia we cross the village road into the unknown green countryside. After a stop at a water hole, a donkey path brings us along frog-lake to the vineyards of the Ropa Valley. We sample a little of the excellent local wine at the village square and find our off-road way to Ermones: the bay where Odysseus met Nafsika. In the azure blue waters we uncover us of the dust and enjoy our lunch at the waterfront taverna. The way back will lead us along wonderful olive groves and a peculiar dog's home.

Corfu Mountain Bike Tours - Head South: Cruise & Cycle
Our caique sails along the Venetian city walls of Corfu Town to Mouse Island, where we disembark and cycle into the green hills towards the village of The Ten Saints with its fabulous views, with before a stop at Sissy's favourite kafeneion and water well in the medieval village of Gastouri, located near the Achilleion Palace. A marvelous downhill and via off-road tracks through the immense olive groves of southern Corfu, we will reach, with a stop at a Byzantine fortress, the lagoon and km's long sandy beach at Lake Korissia. After our lunch and stroll into the dunes we head, via some off-road paths, to the Messonghi river, where we embark again our caique for a pleasant cruise along the southern coastline back to Dassia.

Corfu Mountain Bike Tours - Never on Sunday
From the station we follow immediately the small country roads and off-road tracks to a selection of the picturesque villages located on the hillside of the Pantokrator mountain range. We taste the local bread still baked on olive wood and enjoy a sumptuous lunch at a traditional taverna. Finally we reach one of the lovely bays south of Paleokastritsa for a refreshing dive in the blue waters, after which numerous secret tracks through the "Artemis" forest will lead us back to Dassia. We named the tour after our dearest actress Melina Mercouri, who often visited the same area.

Corfu Mountain Bike Tours - The Olive Trail
In the morning off-road tracks and paths along the hidden lakes and agricultural fields of the Ropa Valley will lead us to one of the traditional villages for lunch. In the afternoon we will follow a spectacular undulating track through a virginal terrain along and high above the western mountain range with a stunning view encompassing the whole length of the coastline. Finally we will pass the vineyards of the Messis villages before returning to Dassia.

Corfu Mountain Bike Tours - For Your Eyes Only
A half day very sportive tour (26Km) starting with a 450M high climb with innumerable hairpin turns over a small tarmac road to the medieval village of Sokraki. After your coffee between the locals on the picturesque tiny square, followed by a rough off-road track along fields of orchids and with amazing views of the whole northern Corfu, we end this nice morning cycling with a long pleasant downhill back to Dassia.

Corfu Mountain Bike Tours - Talking to the Lands of the gods
A spectacular expedition from sea level all the way up, and down, to Corfu's highest peak: Mount Pantokrator (907M). We reach the top via the mountain villages Spartillas (450M - coffee stop at a traditional kafeneion) and Strinilas (603M). Especially the last kilometer to the monastery at the very summit, dating from Byzantine times, will demand your utmost. As a matter of fact the helicopter views over the whole island and the opposite mainland are amazing and very rewarding... After a rest you will need your full technical skills to follow the fantastic one hour off-road downhill to the sea, where - at a secluded beach - we will enjoy our lunch. After a swim in the crystal clear blue sea we will follow the coastal road returning to Dassia.
